Other Visions, the annual competition of Czech moving image, held as a part of PAF Olomouc 2017, presents the ten finalists selected by Prague-based curator Michal Novotný. Within the festival programme, these pieces will be presented as a group exhibition, as well as shown in a cinema screening.
The selected artitsts Jiří Žák, Jozef Mrva, David Přílučík, Johana Novotná, Dalibor Knapp, Romana Drdová, Markéta Magidová, Oleksandr Martsynyuk, Ladislav Tejml a Daniela a Linda Dostálkovy will be competing for the Main Jury Award and the Audience Award.
The international jury is composed of theoreticians and curators Charlotte Procter, Anne Duffau and Szilvi Német. Procter represents the international platform LUX, which supports artists who work with moving image and is also involved in the distribution network for feminist film and videoart Cinenova. Procter will shed some light on her activities during a lecture. The London-based curator Anne Duffau runs an exploratory curatorial platform named A—Z located in the StudioRCA RiverLight, where “exhibitions, discussions, and performances
including DJ-ing, large-format video projections and dance have been taking
place throughout”. Rounding out the jury is the Hungarian curator Szilvi Német, who runs the Crosstalk Video Art Festival in Budapest.
This year’s jury reflects the long-term aim of PAF to raise the awareness of the Czech art of moving image abroad, not only by the means of the distribution platform PAF Aport.
“The jurors are professionals who shape the discourse of moving image
art and we believe that this may help the local artists to gain an important
connection with the context of the globalised art world,” competition coordinator Nela Klajbanová says.
The Other Visions exhibition will be open as a part of the PAF Olomouc 2017 festival, which kicks off on Thursday, Dec 7th, and will be on display daily until the closing ceremony of the festival on Sunday, Dec 10th, when the winners will be announced.
